Quebec’s Robert Desjardins Added to TYLENOL® Players’ Championship FieldMarch 28, 2008ST. JOHN’S, March 28, 2008 – The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling announced today that Robert Desjardins’ (Chicoutimi, Que.) squad has been added to the 16-team field for the men’s 2008 TYLENOL® Players’ Championship. Desjardins replaces Bob Ursel (Kelowna, B.C.), whose team was forced to withdraw from the season-ending event due to work commitments. The eighth and final leg of the 2007-08 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series, the TYLENOL® Players’ Championship will take place from April 16-20, 2008 at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. In order to fill Team Ursel’s vacancy, Capital One Grand Slam of Curling guidelines state that an invitation must be extended to the highest remaining rink in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) standings. The first three invitations were extended to Russ Howard (Moncton, N.B.), Jamie King (Edmonton, Alta.) and Vic Peters (Winnipeg, Man.), but all three teams were unavailable to compete. The fourth invitation was extended to Desjardins, whose rink is ranked 22nd in the CTRS standings. The top 16 men’s and women’s teams on the CTRS standings as of March 17, 2008 automatically qualified to compete at the 2008 TYLENOL® Players’ Championship. Tickets for the 2008 TYLENOL® Players’ Championship are currently on sale and can be purchased online at www.admission.com or in person at the Mile One Centre box office. -Courtesy of Insight Sports More news |
