Shaky game is good enough for Canada's fourth winMarch 24, 2008After two gigantic wins yesterday over the Czech Republic and Germany, Canada looked like a totally different team today against Team Italy. In the game against the Czechs yesterday, Canada scored a 6-ender. Against Germany, they pulled off a 5-ender. But the impressive 100% performances displayed by members of Team Canada yesterday were replaced by numbers in the mid-70s today. Both teams seemed to struggle with draw weight as they took turns watching their rocks sail through the house. Diana Gaspari and her Italian team capitalized on the struggling Canadian team by scoring a three points in the fourth end. But Jones answered right back with three of her own in the fifth. The game remained close until Canada put it away with a steal of two in the ninth end. This gave Canada a 9-6 lead with just one end remaining, and Italy could not recover. Canada picks up one more in the tenth to end it 10-6. The game proved to be Canada's worst thus far. Both Jennifer Jones and Cathy OVerton-Clapham curled less tha 80% for the first time in the tournament. However, they made the shots when they counted most and got away with a win. This moves Canada into a tie with China for first place. Both Canada and China are the only undefeated teams at this year's event. The loss drops Italy down to a 1-4 record. More news |
