Team USA stumble against Danes

March 22, 2008

The first draw of the 2008 Ford World's saw some great matchups. On sheet A, we saw the 21-year-old rising star Privivkova from Russia take on Scotland's Gail Munro. Sheet B had another great game: former world champ Debbie McCormick from the United States against last year's runner-up, Angelina Jensen of Denmark.

The game started well for the Americans, with McCormick handling the hammer well to score her duce. But Jensen answered back big with three points in the second end. Both teams traded single points through to the fifth end break, where they were dead-even with a 4-4 tie. The numbers were impressive for both teams: 87% for Denmark and 83% for Team USA. The big stories at this point in the game were the incredible performances by Camilla Jensen and Denise Dupont of Team Denmark, shooting 93% and 95% respectively.

Coming back from the fifth end break, Denmark took advantage of a slight miss from the Americans. Twenty year-old Madeleine Dupont (who throws skip stones for Denmark) made the best of her last rock, getting two points to take a 6-4 lead.

Despite stealing one more in the tenth, USA couldn't come back. Denmark wins their first game 8-7.
