Changes for Englot and RankinJune 1, 2008Since the curling season ended in April, we've seen a few roster changes on the men's side of things. Now it's the ladies turn. Reigning Saskatchewan champion, Michelle Englot, has tinkered with her lineup. The only change thus far comes at the third position. Current third for Team Englot, Darlene Kidd, has made the decision that she would like to take a step back from competitive curling for the 2008-09 season. Kidd is having a wedding this summer on July 5th, so between all the travelling associated with competitive curling, it is only natural that she would want to take a year off to spend some time with the new hubby. Filling the void is Deanna Doig who is moving over from Team Heather Rankin. Michelle Englot spoke with the Leader-Post about the change. "While we were disappointed that we had to make a change," she said, "we are very excited to have a player of Deanna's calibre to step in to help us accomplish some unfinished business from last year." Clearly, that "unfinished business" is the Scotties. Englot's 2008 Scotties apparence was devastated by the loss of her father, but despite the obvious grief, the team still pulled off an impressive 5-6 record. But the plan is that with Doig on board, that record can improve enough to bring Saskatchewan into the playoffs, and maybe even win the title. Though winning the Scotties would be great, there's no doubt as to what the ultimate goal for Team Englot will be: "Our goal is To gain enough Canadian Team Ranking System points for this season to qualify for the Olympic pre-trials," Englot told reporters. Another bit of exciting news for the Englot rink is that due to a new sponsorship, the team will be known as "Team Saturn of Regina". That sounds far cooler than just naming your team after the skip. © Copyright 2008, Scoops Media. Some rights reserved. To reproduce or distribute, visit: scoopsmedia.icopyright.com
