New National Championship IntroducedAugust 4, 2008Curler's across Canada are familiar with the Brier and Tournament of Hearts as our national championships. But in 2009, The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company plans to introduce a brand new national championship to benefit Canadian charities. The "Dominion Curling Club Championship" will make its debut at the St. George's Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, Ontario, in November of 2009. There will be fourteen entries into the tournament, one from each province, one from each of the three territories, and a team from Northern Ontario. Teams reach the national championship by winning their local club championships and advancing to win their zone and provincial championships. A spokesperson for The Dominion, Leigh Armstrong, said, "The Championship provides the first ever opportunity for winning club teams to represent their club at the zone, provincial or territory level, and ultimately offers them the opportunity to rank nationally." It's not only the curlers who win at this event. All profits made from the event is passed along to support the Canadian Paraplegic Association and help fund curling development across the country. "We thank The Dominion for their vision, leadership and continued commitment," said Bill Adair, Executive Director with the Canadian Paralegic Association. The Dominion is an insurance company that has been based out of CAnada since 1887. They have been a great supporter of curling for a number of years now. You may also remember that only recently The Dominion became the title sponsor of the Toronto Curling Association junior championship. and this new national championship should continue to help the sport grow and give a hand to chairty at the same time.
