Stoughton and Ferbey fight to stay alive
April 18, 2008
Former world champion Randy Ferbey is on his last leg are the 2008 TYLENOL Players' Championship. Ferbey has already dropped two games, meaning one more loss will eliminate him from competition. Jeff Stoughton is in the same condition, after dropping a disappointing loss to Brad Gushue after giving up a big four-ender in the seventh end of his last game.
Ferbey, with the hammer to open the game, scored a big three points to take a comfortable lead out of the gate. In the second end, Ferbey loaded up the house with six rocks, but Stoughton managed to draw in and out count them all to pick up his two points.

Ferbey took full advantage of the hammer again in the third end. The Ferbey team pounded Stoughton for another three points. Then in the fourth end, Randy Ferbey kept the pressure on, and left Stoughton with a very difficult shot to just cut down the number of points Team Ferbey might steal. But Stoughton couldn't pull it off, giving up a back-breaking steal of three. With the game out of reach, 9-2, Team Stoughton shook hands and took the loss after just four ends.
This loss eliminates Stoughton, who had a very rough week, finishing with a 1-3 record. Randy Ferbey, however, stays alive and is just one win away from grabbing a spot in the quarter finals.
Jeff Stoughton curled a dismal 32% in this game, with a team average of 71%. For Team Ferbey, it was a completely differently story — with Scott Pfeifer curling a perfect 100%, Marcel Rocque with an almost flawless 99%, David Nedohin pulled off an impressive 94%, and Randy Ferbey performed at 90%.
