Belisle shocks Jones in first game upset

April 16, 2008

After two draws of the TYLENOL Players' championships, the two top seeds have been knocked down in their first draw. Shannon Bleikrbink, the number two seed, suffered the shocking defeat to Amber Holland in draw one. Then, in draw number two, the two-time defending champion and current world champion Jennifer Jones suffered her first loss of the tournament at the hands of the relatively unknown Eve Belisle.

Jones got to start off with last rock advantage, and capitalized on the opportunity, starting off with a score of two in the first end. But The young skip from Montreal answered right back with a duce in the second. Jones inched ahead once again with a single point in third.

Starting in the fourth end, it was Belisle who chipped away at Jennifer Jones. Belisle grabbed one point in the fourth, followed up by steals in the fifth, sixth and seventh. These short eight-end games proved to be too short for Jones to engineer a comeback. Belisle played the eighth end clean and ran the Jones team out of rocks to claim the 6-3 victory.

Belisle now advances to play against Sherry Anderson of Saskatoon, Sk. As for Jones, she now drops down to group B, where she must Alberta's Cathy King.
