Middaugh improves to 2-0

April 16, 2008

Sherry Middaugh squeeked past home-town favorite Heather Strong in their opening draw with a score of 6-5. This moved her into a game against Canada Cup champion Stefanie Lawton.

Lawton won the pre-game draw to the button, which gave her last rock advantage in end one. With the hammer, Lawton got a single point. She then held Middaugh to a single in the second end.

Then Lawton jumped ahead with a score of two in the third end. But Middaugh cancelled it out by scoring a big two of her own in the fourth.

The game stayed close after the fifth when Lawton scored a single in the fifth to tie it all up at 4-4. But then Middaugh took over. The Middaugh Team scored a duce in sixth and stole another two points in the seventh.

But Middaugh seemed to let her gaurd down with such a big lead. Lawton fought back in the eighth end to set up a three point end. Middaugh was looking at a double take-out, but jammed it on one of Lawton's stone that was hanging around in the back on the house. This left Lawton with a draw to the eight foot to score three points. She didn't miss and sent the game into an extra end.
