Canada and Scotland will play for gold

April 12, 2008

Kevin Martin will get a chance at redeption. After losing the 1 vs. 2 page playoff game to Scotland, skipped by David Murdoch, Team Canada had to go through Norway in the semi-final to earn another shot at Murdoch. And that's just what Canada did.

Martin started off hot, picking up a duce in the first end. He picked up another duce in the third end to take a 4-1 lead. And then it seemed like an eternity before any other points hit the scoreboard. The fourth, fifth, and sixth end were all blanked, as Martin refused to allow any opportunity for Norway to score multiple points. But then in the seventh end, the point drought ended as Thomas Ulsrud made a shot to score a single. Martin answered right back with a point of his own in the eighth.

With the game slipping away, Norway gave a good effort to make it close. But they only managed to get away with a single point in ninth, giving Canada a 5-3 lead heading into the tenth end with last rock advantage. Norway did manage a steal of one, but that wasn't enough to catch Canada.

Norway will now take on China for the bronze. Despite the long list of accomplishments that Kevin Martin has, winning a gold medal at an international curling event is not one of them. But all that could change with one more win. Canada will play David Murdoch of Scotland on Sunday.
