Winning streak hits twenty

April 8, 2008

It's starting to get hard to remember what it's like to see Kevin Martin lose a game. After running the table at the Tim Hortons Brier, with thirteen consecutive wins, Martin now improves to 7-0 at the World Championship in Grand Forks. This puts his total winning streak at twenty games. This mile-stone victory came against Germany's Andy Kapp, who was sitting in second place heading into this draw. Kapp and his German team were tied with Australia with a 4-2 record.

There was a lot of anticipation for this game. Many have called it a preview of the championship match.

Team Canada was determined to show the Germans just how good they were right off the bat. Canada jumped out to a lead early, scoring a whopping three points in the first end. After holding Kapp to a single point in the second, Canada struck again with a duce in the third end.

They headed into the fifth end break with the Germans scrambling. The score was 5-2, but what was more discouraging for Team Germany was that it seemd impossible to generate multiple points against this Canadian team. Also, Germany had to find a way to shut down Canada's offense.

Unfortunatly for Germany, they didn't find a way to shut down Canada in the sixth end. Canada put up another two points after capitalizing on a miss by the German skip.

With a 7-2 lead after six ends, Canada smoothly cruised along to a 9-4 victory. John Morris, who plays third for Canada, was the star of the show again, posting a 98% in this game.

With the win, Canada remains the only undefeated team in the tournament.
