Kevin tries for gold againApril 2, 2008Back in 1985, Kevin Martin won his first national title, the Canadian Juniors. This gave him the right to represent Canada at the worlds, where he went home with a silver medal. Martin was crowned Brier champion for the first time in 1991, where he again represented Canada on the world stage. This time, he earned another silver medal. With curling becoming an official Olympic sport in 1998, Kevin Martin stepped his game up to a new level and in 2002 he worked his way onto the Canadian Olympic team. He headed to Salt Lake City, where he returned home with yet another silver medal. But now things are different. Martin has a new team and has joined forces with former World Junior Champ, John Morris. The Martin-Morris juggernaut steam-rolled the competition at the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier, finishing the tournament with a flawless 13-0 record. This gives Martin another shot at a gold medal. That takes us up to this weekend. Starting on April 5th, twelve of the best men's curling teams from around the globe will gather at the stunning Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota to fight for the world title. The field includes great teams, suhc as Scotland's David Murdoch, Germany's Andy Kapp, and of course Canada's Kevin Martin. But if there's any lesson we can take away from the recently conlcluded World Women's Championship, it's that even a relatively unknown team (such as China's Bingyu Wang) can rise to the top and defeat the greatest players in the game.
