After a tough loss to Team USA, the Canadian team rallied on Tuesday morning against a strong Italian squad. Canada claimed the victory, edging their opponents 7-6.
Rachel Homan, skip for Team Canada, got off to a shaky start in this game. She appeared to be struggling with her draw weight in the early ends, surrendering some easy points to the Italians. But the Canadians got back into their regular rhythm in the fourth end, where they scored three points to jump into the lead.
With a two point lead in the ninth end, Homan was looking to force a point to take the hammer into the final end. But Italian skip Diana Gaspari nailed a clutch draw on her final stone to score two, tying the game 6-6.
Canada played a clean tenth end, leaving Homan with a routine draw on her last stone to grab a point and win the game.
Canada now boasts a nice 4-2 record, positioning them near the top of the pack and in puts them in contention for a playoff spot.
